Lu & Ed Is Relocating!

Lu & Ed monsters are currently produced from a sunny yellow studio on the second floor of a condo not far from Kansas City, Missouri.

Soon, that cheerful little studio will be packed up, and toted about one thousand miles across the country, back to my little home place called South Carolina. ♥

I have loved Missouri. I consider my fiance's family my own. I have made amazing friends here I will never forget and hopefully never lose touch with, and of course, I will be coming back to see them all at least once a year (be sure to read tomorrow's blog post!). But Missouri has never felt like home to me the way South Carolina was.

I miss the heat, the sandy soil, the beach, the simpler way of life, the food, I miss all that and so much more. But mostly I just miss my family, and I want to go home. And things have lined up perfectly in the past few weeks for us to be able to make the move. Despite the ultimate sadness I have about Daft Craft's closing, it seems as if even that happened for a reason.

We made the decision to move half way across the country the day after we made the announcement of closing the store. The two were completely unrelated, believe it or not. The decision was spurred by one of those little ginger bread boys and girls they send out from lower grades in elementary school to learn about geography. You know.. People take a picture of it in their town or state, and send it back with a little description? My son sent his to my cousin Reathel in South Carolina. She kept that ginger bread boy until the day before the last day of school, and shipped him over night to my son's class with a book, full of all of his adventures, through good times and bad, even attending my grand father's funeral I wasn't able to go to.

She wrote it as a story about how the ginger bread boy was named Little G (What my cousin Reathel always called my son) was made of magic to help them not miss me and my son so much when we moved to Missouri, and he went on many grand adventures and told lots of funny jokes to keep them laughing, and he helped them through the happy and sad times. But as his magic from my son ran out, the gingerbread boy had filled with magic from my cousin and her two children, and they sent him back with the book full of all his adventures to keep us from missing them from half way across the country.

He must have ran out of magic in the mail, because when I flipped through the book with my son we both ended up in tears and so home sick it was almost painful. I hadn't truly realized how much I had missed South Carolina until that day, and after a discussion with Trace, we realized everything had just clicked into place so neatly to allow for this to be possible and we both believe in following our hearts, so... South Carolina is where we are heading, July 19th! It seems so soon and so far away, all at once! But I am so excited, so happy, and cannot wait to take you all on this journey with me, halfway across the country, back to my home, back to my family! Bringing Mon-stors to the East Coast, baby!

  2. Congratulations on your decision because I know you are excited. I agree that when you're tuned in to you, you can see the connection in a string of occurrences and choices. Good luck and Godspeed with the preparation and traveling. Look forward to hearing about your odyssey and seeing more monsters.

    1. Sandi, thanks for your kind words and well wishes. I have always been a follower of my heart, and I am so lucky and blessed that my fiance is just as excited as I am and hasn't freaked out at the thought of moving half way across the country. Or, at least he hasn't yet. ;)

    1. Oh, South Carolina is beautiful! We will be right in the middle of the state, about two hours from the beach, and a few hours from the Smoky Mountains. I grew up in Asheville so the Smoky Mountains hold a very special place in my heart, as well!

  5. You have taught me so much and I am going to miss you terribly but I understand "there is no place like home". I left Tennessee 28 years ago to come home. Be safe and have a great trip home.

    1. There really is no place like home! Home is where your heart is, but sometimes your heart never lets go of what you leave behind. ♥

  6. I'm so sad about Daft Crafts Cody, but you have to be where your heart is. We just spend a year selling our empty house in Georgia (and paying for the mortgage all this time) just because it's so important to me that I stay in Ohio to be with my family. You're a total rockstar and I know you'll have fun being back home. I can't wait to see what you come up with from your new studio of awesome-mon-stor-ness!
