October Creative Daily Prompts

#creativedaily - the first photo challenge geared directly towards creatives & makers. The prompts force makers to think of creative ways to tell their story, share their indie biz journey as well as share their life and processes through daily photo uploads & bits of text, encouraging them to fill each and every day with a little bit of creativity, while fostering creative community & new friendships through social media. If you miss a day or few, it's not big deal - this photo challenge is just for fun!

How it works:

Each day, you upload a photo to Instagram or other social media outlets that relates to the dated prompt (for example, the 1st is "pumpkin" so you would post your interpretation of that prompt on the first, like pumpkins, pumpkin art your kid made, pumpkins spice latte, etc) and share a blurb about what the photo represents. Be sure to add the #creativedaily hashtag to group to photos with the other images from this collective.

Click the #creativedaily hashtag to find out what others are posting and make new friends by liking & commenting on their photos!

This collective is such a fun way to make new creative friends, discover new brands and share your own story.

This image is sized for Instagram! Feel free to save it & share the prompts to spread the word & get more people involved! I can't wait to see what you post!

Which prompt do you have a great idea for already?

Paper

You know how I send out a swag bag full of samples and goodies with each order? Well, today, I got Bugaboo Bear Design's swag samples and I love them! Each of the twenty-five mini art samples she sent is hand-lettered on black paper- they aren't prints! How cool is that?! These will be heading out soon with orders from the monster shop! ♥

Butterfly

I still get butterflies in my stomach when I think about how this one time, not too long ago, I owned my own brick and mortar handmade gift shop called Daft Crafts.

It was the most amazing experience of my life and I can't wait to revisit it. Daft was only open one year before we had to close due to a death in my family, my aunt's kidneys failing, and my own breast cancer scare. We were going to move back home to SC to be with my family during that trying time, but then our car fell apart and we had to use all of our savings repairing it, and two years later here we are, still in Missouri.

That was a rough patch, the roughest of patches I've ever went through, but I chose to bloom where I was planted & boy, I guess all that crap was just amending the soil because I am blooming like crazy now. ♥ Life is oh so good here now, in our cozy little home with my little family! I'm blessed with so many wonderful friends and I am so thankful that my little monster biz is thriving!

One day, in the next few years, I would truly love to revisit Daft Crafts as a gift shop but for now, I've converted that dream into a blog full of businessy goodness and tips, tricks and tools of the trade and marvelous meet the maker interviews, hoping it can bring as much joy to other makers through it's cheerful, enlightening content as it always has to me. ♥

Pencil

Kicking off June's #creativedaily posts with a peek into my supplies for Pencil - I love my hand stamped hustle pencils from Row House 14! They certainly keep me motivated! ;)

My Favorite Food & Back in the Good Ole Days

I have fallen behind on the blogging thing. Again. So I'm going to start posting the #creativedaily prompts over here again and maybe the blogging bug will hit me again. :)

Yesterday's prompt was "favorite food" but I was having an off day yesterday and missed it, but it rolls over into today's "back in the good ole days" prompt quite well because we were doing that weekly grocery store thing and lo and behold, my most favorite beverage from back home was sitting on the shelf - Snapple Apple. Every single time we go to any gas station or grocery store in Missouri I look for it. I have only found a single bottle, one time, in the five plus years since I moved to Missouri. So to say I was excited to see cases of it at the store was an understatement. Serious understatement.  I had loaded all of the cases into the cart but Trace made me put a few back kinda of understatement. But have you ever had it?! It's just so good!

Hot

I managed to sneak into my hot studio for a bit this evening to whip up four-eyed Freckleton Francis Fleming the Fourth. What d'ya think?

May 3, 2014

Cold

Taking a break from cleaning my studio to sip on a nice cold banana-strawberry-raspberry-spinach-vanilla yogurt smoothie. In full on beast mode today, put together TWO huge bags of fabric I will never use to donate and totally organizing my fabric supply. Things are changing in the studio next week and I want to start the week with a clean studio & calm and clean mind. ♥

Made Locally

My son was playing outside with his wand and I couldn't resist doing a photo shoot while he did his "magic" on the yard. (I wonder if our tree will ever be a tree again, or if it will forever be a petrified dragon?)

These wands are locally made here in KC from hardwood that is sustainably gathered from fallen trees & organically cured then finished with all-natural oils. Magically simple toys for kids with magically wonderful imaginations. Handmade by Gipson Wands.

Iron

Just ironed this cupcake fabric and decided it had to become a Mon-stor right meow. What do ya think?

Folded

My good pal Melanie brought me a huge stack of folded fabric - old flannel PJs and baby blankets - to turn into monsters yesterday! So excited to get to work with these!

Country

Four years, three hundred and sixty-one days ago I loaded up a U-haul to move half way across the country with a boy I had met online ten years prior but only met in person once before, 30 days prior to moving to the Midwest with him. A week ago, I married that boy. ♥

If I hadn't made that wildly crazy on the spot decision to say YES and move to Missouri, Mon-stors never would have been created, I wouldn't be an entrepreneur and small business owner and I wouldn't be married to my best friend right now. Hoorah for my courage and bravery to do life changing decisions without fear of what may or could or would be.

Unbeliveable

Nerds Bumpy Jelly Beans are unbelievably nommy - my most favorite candy ever!

I've been slacking about posting the #creativedaily photos on my blog the past few days, but they are all on my Instagram account if you want to follow me over there to keep up with the daily photos (plus sneak peeks into the studio & life of a maker!).

Metallic

Today's #creativedaily prompt was metallic, and our lovely new wedding bands were the first things to come to mind. ♥ More photos to come of this beautiful day when I get all the files from the Tami, our photographer.

(psst, if you need a photographer in the KC area, Tami is the best out there!)

Apr 16, 2014

Pattern

If you had to pick between these gray zebra pattern monsters, would it be Tiny Timothy or Big Bertie?

Apr 15, 2014

Twisted

My son twisted my arm for months trying to get me to dye my hair pink and when I finally did it, and turned purple! Hehe! (ps I spent today in the studio and I have some cute new monsters to show off for it. Sneak peeks tomorrow!)

Apr 11, 2014

Flower

I had a phenomenal day today. I started the day getting our marriage license, spent the majority of today hanging with my lovely maker buddies, enjoying the sunshine & left with a container of flower seeds and all full of love and inspiration, and wrapped up the day buying our wedding bands for our marriage on Monday! How was YOUR day?

Butterfly

Hustling hard in the studio so when my kidlet gets home from school we can get right to work on his "butterfly" garden! He has his own little plot where he is planting sunflowers, zinnias, marigolds and more, plus he has little planters we are going to put all over the yard with marigolds since they help to repel mosquitoes naturally!

Apr 7, 2014

Bunny

My son keeps his pink bunny from Squshies hanging on his bedroom door. ♥ He was sleeping with it for a while but kept losing it in the covers so now he greets G every morning when he opens his bedroom door. ♥ My son is very excited about the start of his Squshie collection and says he wants to collect enough to make a mobile to hang over his bed. Love his love for handmade!

Kite

Today was beautiful day - I briefly debated going out and buying a kite to fly just for today's prompt, but instead we ended up at the home improvement store where we bought the supplies to start our garden and make THIS cute container garden for strawberries! Isn't it adorbs?! We painted all the pots as soon as we got home and we have enough to make another for more strawberry plants.
