Last week I posted a fabric combo for a Mon-stor and asked people to guess what they thought it was. Well, I finally got around to finishing the Mon-stor! So here's the big reveal! This Mon-stor....
... was made from a PJ top & PJ pants!

Workspace.
Today's #creativedaily prompt is workspace so I spent the morning tidying up my little sewing corner to share with you guys. :)
Pictured: Main table that holds a basket of projects, my sewing machine, Ottlite, current WIP & sewing tools. Secondary 6' table for ironing and cutting that also holds my pretty paper flowers in my brands colors. Shelf on the wall holds packing tape, washi tape, business cards, thank you cards, the book my art was published in, basket of pens, screwdrivers and a long knitting needle I use to open my sewing machine when I need to clean it, my ledger for income/expenses. Not pictured, just to the left of my chair is a small wire shelf (you can see the hangers sticking off the side of it) that holds felt for monster faces & my basket of fur for monster hair. And of course, there's my broken office chair. I never lean back so it doesn't bug me. :)

What Mon-stors Are Made Of - #1
I thought it would be fun to add a new series on the blog centered around what Mon-stors are made from. If you've been around for a while, or if you're just discovering Lu & Ed, you may have noticed I say they are made with up-cycled fabrics. But just what does that mean? Wonder no more! This series will show you just what Mon-stors are made of! Rawr!
This week, I'm showing off these XXL PJ pants I found at a thrift store, as modeled by my son (by standing in one leg of the pants, haha!)....
That I turned into this Mon-stor. (sorry for the blurry photo, it's the only one I snapped before I packed it up for it's new home!)
And this tote.
And two plush (only one shown here because I ran out of stuffing, whoops!).
The tiny scraps of fabric I had left I diced and stuffed the plush monsters with! :) And that is how Lu & Ed is keeping the Earth clean - by using post production and gifted fabrics fabrics, there is no excess air pollution or waste from textile factories and since I use every last little scrap, so there is absolutely no landfill waste from the production of Mon-stors going into landfills. Makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy inside, right? ;)
Tune in next week and see what I've done with these pants!

Lu & Ed's got swag!
Have you heard the latest news? Now every order from luanded.com comes with a free swag bag to reward my monstrously awesome customers! Each bag is filled with samples, coupons and goodies from handmade businesses I believe in, so you get to experience their epic customer service first hand and discover amazing new crafty businesses to support!
I think it's going to be a really fun way to connect people + handmade businesses. I'm excited to see what people think of the swag bags! The first couple of swag bags are on their way to the first recipients and I just can't wait to hear what they have to say!
If you order + receive a swag bag from me, please send me some feedback about the products in the bags and let me know what type of shops you would like to see participating, also I'd love to know if you ordered anything from any of the participating shops that contributed to the swag bags, which item in the swag bag was your favorite, etc - this is all very important for me to know as this is a new program and I am doing it for YOU - my loyal, loving, epic monster adopting friends! :) All of the information you provide will be used to improve this swag program! :)
And if you have a handmade shop and would like to get in on the fun, apply here! The Swag Bags will go in with orders from my monster shop. They will have very concentrated swag that jives with the products my customers love – cute, whimsy, handmade, eco, colorful and fun products for kids and parents! If you think your shop fits the bill, please apply! The second wave of swag bags will be going out soon! :) It is only $5 to participate, and you get to send twenty-five (25!!!) swag goodies (coupons, samples or promo materials like stickers, pin back buttons, mini art prints, etc paired with a coupon) - that means for just $5, you get direct-marketed to 25 people who love products just like yours. Unlike an online ad, it's a guaranteed eyes-on-you experience for your shop, marketed directly to your target audience.*
* Due to the highly targeted audience, I am only accepting shops that I know my customers will love based on years of market research. As is such, there is an application process and I will only select the most fitting applicants to participate!

2013 Week by Week - Week #3
Happy Monday, lovelies! How was your weekend?
My weekend was nice - in fact, yesterday I ended up taking an entire day off! I haven't done that in so long - it was such a nice, relaxing break and I feel completely recharged now! I didn't sit down at my computer once yesterday! We played in the woods, went on a hike, I read a book, Trace took me out to dinner... It was a really great way to wrap up a busy week! :) And now I am excited to kick off a week of monster making full of colorful and creative new ideas!
{side note: it is really difficult to remember to take time for yourself when you own and operate a creative business from your home, but it's oh-so-important to do so, guys!
Unplug once in a while.
Remind yourself the world won't end if you don't check Twitter or Facebook.
Go outside.
Have dinner (out or in) with your family and leave your phone on silent and out of reach.}
On to the studio recap! I only have four Mon-stors to share this week - this week has been a little busy with my son. ♥ He graduated from his karate and self defense course and moved up to a yellow belt, and then Friday afternoon through Sunday, he had some little friends over for a sleepover! ♥ It was a really fun week full of happy moments, but not a lot of time for sewing. :)
I also decided to take the plunge and try a new take on Mon-stor photography - and threw a kid in the mix! I personally love the result - I think it shows the size of Mon-stors and also helps demonstrate their function a bit better, but I would love to hear your thoughts on it!
Also, next Saturday will be my first day with my intern, Jessica, in the studio with me! I am so excited to get started working together! Can't wait to share photos and updates about this process with you guys!

Finally sewing again!
I spent all day yesterday unpacking my sewing supplies and setting my studio back up. Right now, we are going through a nightmare with the car troubles (I will write about it in a later post after we talk to the owner of the company. That's how far up we are having to go to get this thing sorted out! It's been dreadful!) so there's no point in keeping everything packed up since we have no clue when we can move and I am going bonkers not being able to sew.
Unpacking was a lot more fun than packing it all up! I took extra time sorting my fabric by type + colors.
And I turned the shelves in the closet into a space to hold craft show supplies + promotional materials (extra business cards, goodies for packages, etc) and also I have a cute little divided bucket I forgot to photograph that I sorted stickers to decorate packages, markers for labeling, and tape into for packaging orders!
And my bulb in my studio blew, so we had this brilliant idea to hang green LED lights around my studio. The effect is pretty funky - it creates a great atmosphere for middle of the work day dance parties. :D
When I have my task lights on, you can barely see the green tinge at all since the bright white washes it out, but they still twinkle and look cute! And ironically right after we finished I went in our bedroom and found a bulb for my ceiling fixture. Haha!
So today I did some final touched around my studio, sorted my threads and finished unpacking supplies and cleaning out the boxes. Then I decided to sew! I was going to work on trick or treat monster totes but my rotary mat is messed up for getting squished between two boxes I am trying to flatten that under a heavy box. So I made this Mon-stor instead!
His name is Jilbert - you can see more photos of him here! I have more fabric combos laid out for this weekend - enough for at least five trick or treat totes, and these for Mon-stors:
Excited to spend the weekend sewing! ♥ I have missed it a lot this past week!
